Winter-themed Landscapes have been very popular with students this year and they have expressed the subject in watercolor, oils and pastels.

What an amazing time at the Studio! So many students have completed their projects. As you can see we have works in oil, pastel, and watercolor. It is so rewarding to see how pleased students are when they complete a project that required many hours of dedication from them. They love the results! If you want to encourage my students please give us a like and share! This month, three students completed watercolor paintings of a staged set of apples and their cast shadows. This beginner project introduces the student to under-painting and layering to achieve the final result/ I think they all did very well! Here are two paintings that were completed in January. The mixed media watercolor was done by beginner artist, Eva S and the still life oil painting was done by advanced student, Stav R. Both students did a great job! I apologize for the delay in posting my student's amazing works that were completed during the months of October November and December. They are all showcased in the slideshow below. Beginner level through Advanced are all represented. Please comment on your favorites and let the a Artists know their efforts are appreciated. Royalty Free Music: Bensound.com
License code: 0CGOTB2IVGX3LJFN Sharing student's completed works by month: This week I am featuring the artwork that was completed in: SEPTEMBER 2023 Matthew, who is twelve yrs old, began taking Art Lessons at the Art of Excellence Studio September 2020. In Matthew 's own words:" I have learned how to properly shape and measure objects I want to paint. I have tried painting with watercolor, acrylics and pastels.
My most recent project was of a sports car and I used torn newspaper and permanent ink washes. This was my first time trying to use this media and I think that the newspaper added interest to the subject." It certainly did, Matthew and I like the title of your painting too! Nathan began taking Art Lessons at the Art of Excellence Studio as an eighth grader in 2021.
Although he always liked Art and made sketches, he felt unsure about what he could learn to create. After learning the basics of sighting, contour drawing and measuring, in Nathan's words " drawing became easy." Nathan says "I enjoyed doing my first graphite portrait because it was something I never thought I could do. I also enjoyed using pastels for the first time because they blend so well and require no drying time." Nicely done, Nathan! Dominic ( who is 10 yrs old ) began taking Art Lessons at the Art of Excellence Studio almost 2 years ago.
In his own words: "I learned contour drawing which helped me draw things more accurately. I also learned to check proportions while drawing. In watercolor, I learned to layer paints to create different shades and effects. I like it!" His watercolor painting of the Monarch butterfly required many layers, and yet it has a very "light" quality to it. Please like and comment to show our young artist his work is recognized. Beginning student and semi-retired Dentist, Bob Sorin, came to The Art of Excellence Studio in May when he decided to pursue his passion for artistic expression. Although he did not believe that he could create something that looked "real", he was happily surprised by the results he achieved. Bob is working on another still life, and already has plans to work on a special project that will contain an element of optical illusion.
I love it when students think outside the box! This is an excellent beginning. |
