"Opposing Players"

Get ready to dive into a whirlwind of color and motion!
Our talented emerging artist Mathew T. has pushed the boundaries of watercolor with an exhilarating splashing technique that brings his “Opposing Players” scene to life.
Although these figures are separate paintings, taken together, each vibrant splash and brushstroke captured the energy of two figures locked in dynamic play—proof that experimentation can transform a simple idea into an unforgettable work of art.
At The Art of Excellence Studio, we believe that growth comes from daring to try something new.

DIVERGENT PORTRAITS: The Art of Personality

At The Art of Excellence Studio, our Advanced Artists continue to awe and inspire with their unique visions and mastery of technique.
Meet Nathan G. and Mariana J., two young creatives who’ve brought personality and emotion to life in strikingly different ways!

Mariana’s oil portrait of “Myzsko”, her beloved puppy, channels the vibrancy of the LeFauve style, while Nathan’s chalk pastel Self-Portrait on black paper invites you into a world of subtle mystery and depth.

Whether through bold or traditional expression, these works show how true artistry isn’t just about precision—it's about capturing the essence of a subject.

Join us in celebrating these incredible artists who are not only skilled with their tools but also dare to infuse their work with their own spirit.

EVA'S APPLE

At the Art of Excellence Studio, young artists hone their observational skills with a fun and delicious project! Students bring their favorite fruit to the studio, sketch it, and then enjoy a few bites.
Afterward, they return to their work, redraw the fruit, and repeat the process until their snack is finished.

Once the series of sketches is complete, the student analyzes the values in each drawing and uses those insights to create a final watercolor painting of the composition!  This is Eva S.'s painting of her  apple.

As we welcome the month of March, once again we are thrilled to highlight the remarkable talents of our amazing artists!

Steve O. is a bold artist whose latest creation, a remarkable rendering of a house,  will inspire  you!  Steve began drawing almost one year ago at the age of 81!  His perseverance in navigating the tools and techniques of drawing is praiseworthy!

Mary S., a high  school student, has taken her first steps into the realm of charcoal art.  Through the techniques of "addition and subtraction" of value, she has breathed life into a charming composition featuring two red apples and one green apple on a soft white cloth.

These students have mastered various techniques, including the art of balancing light and shadow, to beautifully depict the elegance of everyday objects.

This vibrant autumn landscape, created with watercolors, showcases Dominic B.'s exceptional attention to detail.  He skillfully preserved the lighter areas of the painting to capture the glow of the season, while deepening the darker tones for contrast and depth.
Although the scene radiates sunshine, the painting conveys the crisp chill of autumn air, making it almost tangible to the viewer.
Nice work, Dominic!
