Beginner2 student, 9 yr-old Ariella Fogelman, made her first self-portrait using chalk pastels. This is a project that requires a lot of measurements! Look at the student's wonderful use of warm and cool colors. Nice!
Young Beginner Students, working from reference photos, recreate a silhouette of a bridge against a colorful sky. The process helps the student learn paint application techniques AND create a beautiful painting!
Sofiya Rakitina, a Beginner Level-2 student, painted this expressive cat portrait using chalk pastel in shades of grey and white. This is the first time Sofiya has tried a project like this and the first time she used pastels. Great job!
Advanced Student, Anita Nakhimovitch, created this fantasy painting in watercolor, ink and acrylic. The patterns and colors in this dreamscape evoke the feeling of motion while the figure is in repose. Brilliant!
These Beginners are gaining the confidence to tackle complex subjects and apply different watercolor techniques on their compositions.
For example, each student chose from the techniques of variegated background wash, wet in wet wash with drops of alcohol, or gradient wash for their paintings. In addition they used watercolor resist and crayon resist to enhance their paintings.
I think they did a great job!
