The students reserved white in order to create the look of juicy-looking fruit. The challenge was to preserve the white space and then reintegrate it back into the painting as strongly highlighted areas.
This was a delicious project!

Creating a self portrait is very challenging, there are so many things to look for.  These young artists took on the challenge in watercolor! Watercolor requires a lot of patience when applying layers to create skin tone. Good job everyone!

Daniel Ketter chose and composed this still life arrangement and then used a limited palette of sepia, white and burnt sienna conte crayon, which he then accented with green and yellow chalk pastel.
The challenge: to capture the different textures that were present.

Several different photographs of this majestic waterfall were taken by the young artist, Ellen Modlin, on location in Iceland. She combined elements and values from her reference photos to produce this beautiful landscape painting using acrylic paint.
