Great job, Ellen!
Ellen Modlin finished this painting using watersoluble oil paint. She loved the ease with which it could be blended. This kiwi close-up looks delicious!

Esther and Gail Trifel began Art Lessons this past September and they have been eager students! This project combined an abstract technique to create the background and more precise layering on the subject. These colorful creatures brightened up the studio while they were in process. Very well done!
Dasha and Sophia recently began studying art at the Art of Excellent Studio. Even though they each have private lessons independent of each other, they produced similar work because I always have my beginners learn how to create a simple composition from observation and express a full range of values with charcoal.
This exercise is fun, and produces excellent results on the first try! Nice work Dasha and Sophia! Two Art Students with very different takes on their self portraits.
Daniel chose the traditional approach, using realistic transitions of values to model his features and he achieved a recognizable likeness. Sofiya used both a forward facing and profile reference photo for her fantasy "nature" portrait. She used water soluble oil paint and applied three-dimensional butterflies as a finishing touch. Both students applied everything they learned to create these wonderful pictures. Keep it up! It seems that it has been a very long winter. So to break the dreariness in the weather, what could be a better subject to paint than colorful winter birds! This was also the first oil painting experience for these students, and they did a great job!
Ayelet Kurz used her own reference photo (taken at night in Las Vegas) to create a pastel painting on black paper that shimmers with light!
Well done, Ayelet! A wonderful bowl of lemons, painted in watercolor by Ariel Strizhevsky.
It takes patience to build the layers of value in such a light hue. Nicely done, Ariel! The students reserved white in order to create the look of juicy-looking fruit. The challenge was to preserve the white space and then reintegrate it back into the painting as strongly highlighted areas.
This was a delicious project! This beautiful Acrylic painting was created from Olivia Scro's reference photo of her own home-grown tomatoes. You can almost reach out and touch them.
Nice work, Olivia! Rina Rubenfeld loves to capture beautiful faces! She is currently working to enlarge her portraits, and introduce some color into her composition.
